About Jenny

For as long as I can remember, I have loved movement. I played, danced, jumped, and sprinted my way through my childhood and adolescence, receiving the Female Athletic Award at my 8th grade graduation, and an Athletic Letter at my high school graduation. I was unbelievably lucky in that I was able to turn my love and passion for movement into a career, by pursuing a Double Major in Physical and Health Education and Life Sciences at Queen’s University, as well as a Master’s Degree in Fitness Science from York University. In my most recent academic endeavour, I have completed my Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and begun a Sport Sciences Residency through the Royal College of Chiropractic Sport Sciences of Canada.

After completing my undergraduate degrees, my physical activity routines changed. I made a shift from mainly participating in sports, to ‘training’. I discovered CrossFit in 2009, and through CrossFit, discovered power lifting and Olympic lifting, my now two favorite ways to train. Although I may be small in stature, I’m mighty in strength and spirit. I love to lift heavy things, sprint, jump, dance and share my energy with others! Thus, in addition to designing my own training, I love to program for and train others. I live and work in Swan River, Manitoba as a Chiropractor and Personal Trainer. I also provide Fascial Stretch Therapy services, contribute to Tuja Wellness as a Fitness Advisor and write fitness and training related articles for VIV Magazine. Through both continuing education and my own physical training, I have obtained a wide breadth of knowledge and experience in a variety of training disciplines. I’m certified through the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology as a Certified Exercise Physiologist, and have over 10 years of personal training, programming and fitness testing experience. I have also earned certifications as a Level 1 CrossFit coach, a Level 1 Agatsu Kettlebell Instructor, an Agatsu Joint Mobility and Movement Instructor, a Level 1 Biosignature Practitioner, a Certified Pre- and Post-natal Coach and a Level 1 Fascial Stretch Therapist (Stretch to Win). I am also certified in First Aid and CPR, as well as through the Heartwise Exercise Program. My main interests include programming and training as a means to elite athletic performance as well as health promotion and disease prevention. I have experience working with a variety of clients, both children and adults ranging from athletes to clients with chronic disease. I have also been involved with the occupational fitness testing of structural fire fighters and power line workers, as well as pre-season testing for NHL athletes. I appreciate training that is functional, goal-directed, evidence-based, safe, efficient and empowering.

I developed this blog with the hope of passing my thoughts, knowledge and passion for fitness and training on to women who are interested in training to achieve their wellness potential.  I have seen too many articles and blogs that pass unreliable, inaccurate, and often demoralizing information on to women involved in fitness.  On my own wellness journey, I work very hard to train my body and mind to be powerful, mindful, and grateful; by sharing my thoughts, knowledge and experience, I hope to empower you to do the same!
